This study provides a qualitative analysis of the circumstances and consequences of parental caregiving to adult children with AIDS in Thailand. The analysis is based on 20 open-ended interviews, mainly with parents of an adult son or daughter who died of AIDS within the few prior years.
Drug use and HIV vulnerability remain issues of great concern for many countries in Asia and the Pacific because surveys indicate that in some geographical areas more than sixty per cent of all injecting drug users are HIV-positive.
The case studies included in this collection stem from a UNAIDS presentation entitled Home and Community Care: It Works! It documented the experiences and lessons learned by six community-level projects from Africa, Asia, and Latin America.
This regional workshop, "Prevention of HIV/AIDS and Drug Abuse through Quality Improvement of Curriculum and Teaching/Learning Materials in Asia and the Pacific was organized from 25-29 August, 1997, by the National Commission of the People's Republic of China for UNESCO in Beijing.
