In this article, it is argued that the more than 170 school-based health centers (SBHCs) in West Virginia, as well as the more than 2,500 school-based health centers in the United States serving over six million children and adolescents (about 12% of the 50.8 million students), can and should play a key role in supporting adolescent health as students begin returning to school this fall, whether online or in person. Based on pertinent literature and their first-hand experience, the authors provide several recommendations related to school-based health centers that could benefit adolescent health during the return to school.
