What do adolescents and young people need from sexuality education and how do they want to learn about it? This report examines the perspectives of over 9,000 adolescents and young people from a global survey, complemented by qualitative research with 405 adolescents and young people from five countries: Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Colombia, the Kyrgyz Republic and Trinidad and Tobago. The message is clear: young people prefer learning about sexuality education at school. They call for more in-depth learning on a broad range of topics, delivered through participatory approaches taught in safe and supportive classrooms, that build practical skills for real life. Grounded in youth perspectives, this report provides concrete insights and recommendations for making sexuality education more comprehensive, inclusive, youth-responsive and context-specific. It is a practical resource for policymakers, educators, young people and others who work to fulfill adolescents’ and young people’s rights to education, health and well-being.
