South Asia is home to an estimated 172 million adolescent girls aged 10–19 years, the largest cohort of any region globally. This report analyses the most recent data on the region's critical nutrition challenges girls face.

Background: In low- and middle-income countries like Bangladesh, inadequate water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) practices lead to a higher disease burden among children and hinder their academic performance. However, there have been efforts to improve WASH between 2014 and 2018.

School meal programs aim to address multiple objectives, most commonly to improve children’s nutrition and health and to meet education goals by facilitating and incentivizing children’s school attendance and learning.
