This paper tells about an experience in Kenyan primary schools. A training workshop was organized for 64 teachers, two each from the 32 targeted primary schools.

The purpose of this research was to improve our understanding about the current impact of HIV/AIDS on primary education in four Eastern and Southern African countries, Kenya, Mozambique, Tanzania and Uganda through collecting empirical data.

IIEP and its partner ministries of education launched the collaborative action research programme was launched in 2003. This initiative is designed to contribute to mitigation and prevention of the impact of the HIV/AIDS pandemic in three countries - Malawi, Tanzania and Uganda.

Rwanda faces major challenges in strengthening its education system to meet national development objectives, as well as specific education goals of Universal Primary Education and Education for All. The HIV/AIDS epidemic creates an additional challenge to the system.
