This note attempts to examine some of the evidence we now have about HIV/AIDS and education. It reviews some of our perceptions, and how they are being adjusted in ways that can help us respond more accurately to HIV/AIDS and education in Southern Africa.

In the Eastern and Southern African Region (ESAR), the AIDS epidemic is beginning to have a serious impact on the education sector, specifically on the demand for, supply of, and the management and quality of education provided at all levels.
This is a skills-based peer education programme addressing HIV prevention and risk behaviour reduction.
