In October 2001, the IIEP organized it's first HIV/AIDS electronic discussion on the impact of HIV/AIDS on education. The forum was moderated throughout its four week period. Each week, discussion questions were sent out which focused on a specific aspect of the pandemic.
In January 2001, a workshop entitled "Strategic and Operational Planning for the Management and Mitigation of HIV/AIDS In Education" was convened at the request of the Zambian Ministry of Education (MOE).
