Violence occurs in many schools in Central Asia. It is often gender-based, targets the most vulnerable and remains unattended. To develop educators' skills in preventing and responding to violence UNESCO Almaty Cluster Office for Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan has produced three training modules. Decreasing stigma and discrimination against people living with HIV module raises teachers' awareness about HIV and AIDS and helps them overcome widely spread misconceptions about HIV transmission and risks posed by HIV-positive learners or educators to other children and adults at school. Demonstration of videos, role plays and group discussions facilitate greater solidarity with people living with HIV and equip educators with knowledge and skills to integrate HIV-positive learners into school community and protect them from negative attitude and discrimination.
