In October 2001, the IIEP organized it's first HIV/AIDS electronic discussion on the impact of HIV/AIDS on education. The forum was moderated throughout its four week period. Each week, discussion questions were sent out which focused on a specific aspect of the pandemic. Discussion themes included: Examining unquestioned assumptions; flexibility on educational provision; enhancing student responsibility. With close to 200 participants, the resulting exchange was useful to IIEP as participants gave concrete examples of what is happening in their countries and recounted experiences colleagues have encountered while confronting the impact of HIV/AIDS on education in their own communities.
