HIV/AIDS education in schools is often denied to children and young people because the subject is considered too sensitive or controversial to be taught or it is difficult to find a place for it in an already overcrowded school curriculum. This document examines the challenges affecting the implementation of HIV/AIDS education in schools, it also documents effective responses, which include creating a partnership between policy-makers, religious and community leaders, parents and teachers in order to ensure the implementation of an effective HIV/AIDS education programme.
