In the 1990s, the European Network of Health Promoting Schools was founded by the European Commission and WHO's Regional Office for Europe after a number of conferences and workshops on the settings-based approach to health. This book looks at advances in concepts and theories related to the health promoting schools; case studies from Russia, Sweden, Finland, Germany, Switzerland and Macedonia; and presents comparative studies on mental health promotion programs, the social climate of health promoting schools, an evaluation of their impact in Latvia and another by female physicians and health promoting schools as contributors to social and organizational capital and teachers' wellbeing and job commitment.
