UNFPA commissioned an independent review of the life skills education (LSE) content within the competency-based curriculum for grades 6 to 9 implemented in 2024. This review focused on identifying strengths and gaps in LSE provision and offering recommendations to ensure effective delivery by well-prepared teachers. The review used the Sexuality Education Review and Assessment Tool (SERAT) to assess alignment with the International Technical Guidance on Sexuality Education (ITGSE) (UNESCO et al., 2018). The objectives of this review are to: a) Assess the comprehensiveness, age-appropriateness, and pedagogical approach of the curricula content, materials, teacher training, and monitoring and evaluation mechanisms; and b) Identify strengths and gaps and recommend interventions based on international best practices to improve the effectiveness of LSE in Bangladesh.
