Using the U-Report platform, this report collects perspectives from young people between the ages of 13 and 19 years about their food choices and food environments in and around their school and within their local community. The survey revealed that unhealthy, processed foods and sugary drinks are widely available in schools and communities, contributing to poor dietary choices. Many respondents reported experiencing food insecurity, often not eating when hungry, either at school or at home. Young people in South Asia generally believed that governments could do more to address overweight and obesity. One of the key actions recommended by U-Report respondents was to ensure that all children have access to adequate nutrition education through schools. Respondents also recommended to increase the availability of healthy foods and decrease the availability of unhealthy foods, increase the affordability of healthier food and drink options and restrict unhealthy food and beverage marketing in and near schools.
