Online course: Preventing School-Related Gender-Based Violence (SRGBV)

Advanced E-Course UNICEF activity

School-Related Gender-Based Violence refers to any acts or threats of sexual, physical, or psychological violence occurring in and around school. It is perpetrated as a result of gender norms and stereotypes and enforced by unequal power dynamics. The diverse forms of SRGBV (sexual, physical, emotional, in person or online) affect many children, putting their right to learn in jeopardy. One in three learners aged 11-17 experience SRGBV every year. SRGBV cannot end until we see it, acknowledge it, report it and take action to end it.

The development of this course was led by the United Nations Girls’ Education Initiative, in partnership with UNICEF and UNESCO. It was guided by the Global Working Group to End SRGBV through a Technical Reference Group joined by Right to Play, Save the Children and Together for Girls.
