The Government of Botswana recognizes that adolescent well-being is critical to achieving sustainable development because of its youthful population. Out of a population of 2.3 million, 30.3 percent of the population is aged 10-24 years. It is therefore essential to accelerate investments in Adolescents and Young People (AYP) so as to harness the human capital and achieve a demographic dividend, whilst at the same time contributing to sustainable development. This Commitment acknowledges the need to prioritize the needs of adolescents, promote their rights and provide them with opportunities for education, healthcare and participation so as to ensure a sustainable future for them. The thematic commitments are intended to guide these efforts and create meaningful change to adolescent well-being.
