This resource booklet is designed to protect you and to help you teach and train your colleagues and students about HIV/AIDS and STIs. It includes lots of accurate information, self study tasks and activities you could use in your training and teaching. It is written by PNG teachers.

This framework sets a standard for training providers and in-service coordinators to help plan, deliver and evaluate training in HIV/AIDS, STIs, reproductive health, peer education and life skills.

Peer education is a powerful strategy to promote positive behaviour change and improve the life skills of young people. This peer education program builds upon the concepts and life skills first introduced in the Upper Primary Personal Development syllabus.

The HIV and AIDS Policy for the National Education System of Papua New Guinea has four main sections, which, taken together, provide an effective response to HIV.

The HIV/AIDS Policy for the National Education System of Papua New Guinea has been widely distributed throughout the country. In 2006 the HIV/AIDS/STIs Implementation Plan 2007-2012 for the National Education System of Papua New Guinea was developed.

Since 2007 all pre-service teachers have had a compulsory and comprehensive training course in HIV&AIDS and sexual reproductive health. HIV&AIDS is also a compulsory part of all school and cluster TIPs and every School Learning Improvement Plan (SLIP).
