The Consultation, convened by WHO and UNICEF in March 2002 in Stockholm, Sweden, highlighted the importance of investing in the health of children and adolescents as a cost-effective way of securing future prosperity of nations. There is ample evidence about effective interventions, the challenge is to transform this knowledge into action. Increased commitment and strategic investments are needed to ensure that every child and adolescent can develop to its full potential. The Millennium Development Goals and the United Nations Special Session for Children have created the momentum - the time has come for the global community, national governments, communities and families to deliver the necessary services and care.
