In May 2006, Education International (EI) published ' Training for Life' a draft report aimed at establishing a clear picture on the record of governments in providing pre- and in-service training to teachers on HIV and AIDS.
The main thrust of the initiative has been the formation of school health clubs in secondary level schools throughout Guyana.
The workshop was organized under the auspices of an ILO-initiated programme during 2004-2005 to enhance a sectoral approach to HIV/AIDS education sector workplaces, as a complement to the ILO's Code of Practice on HIV/AIDS in the world of work, adopted in 2001.
In order to better meet the needs of teachers' representatives worldwide, EI and its partners decided to merge two key training programmes dealing with Education For All and HIV and AIDS prevention in schools. The two issues are inextricably linked.
