A review of Georgia’s education system conducted in 2021 and 2022 revealed significant shortcomings in the representation of comprehensive sexuality education within the general education system. Key gaps were identified in the national curriculum, teacher training programmes, and the monitoring and evaluation systems, leaving students without essential knowledge on certain topics. In addition, the assessment found that, although there is a supportive legal and policy framework in place, policymakers often avoid open discussions of comprehensive sexuality education because of societal stigma, thus hindering effective advocacy and implementation. The review uses UNESCO's SERAT methodology.
