The debate of delivering HIV and AIDS education within schools is a sensitive topic that often elicits strong feelings from parents, teachers and school administrators.
This case study is based on in-depth qualitative research conducted over six months by Concern Worldwide in the central province of Manica. It looks at how Concern Mozambique has addressed issues related to HIV and AIDS within its education programme.
Presently 50% of the adult population is illiterate in 17 of African countries (Benin, Burkina Faso, Central African Republic, Chad, Democratic Republic of Congo, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Gambia, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Madagascar, Mali, Mozambique, Niger, Senegal and Sierra-Leone).
