In 2008, sexual and reproductive health (SRH) rights as well as related issues in the context of HIV and human rights were identified as key advocacy issues for the AIDS and Rights Alliance for Southern Africa (ARASA). From 21 to 22 October 2008, ARASA convened more than 35 partners from 15 countries in the southern Africa/SADC region at the Kopanong Conference Centre in Johannesburg, South Africa to explore levels of access to SRH and HIV prevention services as well as key barriers to increased access to services for women in the region. The objectives of the meeting were as follows: To gain a better understanding of key issues related to sexual and reproductive health rights in the context of HIV and AIDS in Southern Africa; To develop an advocacy framework and strategy to address these issues at a country as well as at regional level; and To forge and strengthen partnerships to advance the advocacy agenda on these issues in the region. This report serves to summarise the key discussions held during the 2-day deliberations and outline an advocacy agenda and plan for SRH, HIV and human rights, with particular focus on the levels of access to services for women in the region.
