This study was motivated by concerns that teachers are an important national resource yet have been overlooked by workplace HIV and AIDS programs.

The workshop was organized under the auspices of an ILO-initiated programme during 2004-2005 to enhance a sectoral approach to HIV/AIDS education sector workplaces, as a complement to the ILO's Code of Practice on HIV/AIDS in the world of work, adopted in 2001.

The purpose of this note is to further update the data on teacher deaths in five high HIV prevalence countries, namely Botswana, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania and Zambia.

Cambodia is among the countries most severely affected by the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Asia. In 2003, an estimated 123,100 adults in Cambodia were living with HIV/AIDS and 60,000 children were affected by HIV/AIDS.
