The Government of Trinidad and Tobago has developed a National Strategic Plan (NSP) which aims to reduce the incidence of HIV infections in Trinidad and Tobago and to mitigate the negative impact of HIV and AIDS on persons infected and affected in Trinidad and Tobago.

It is generally accepted that the education sector has a significant role to play in the prevention of HIV infection, in the support of infected and affected people. HIV/AIDS must be considered core business for every educational institution.
HIV and AIDS have become endemic. Teachers like other workers spend most of their time in a day at the work place. Hence there is the need for GNAT to protect those infected and to educate its membership to prevent further infections.
Few UNAIDS co-sponsors are assisting countries in developing education sector strategic plans.
