To date there has been no systematic review of how laws and policies govern young people’s access to sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and HIV information and services. But there is now for the Asia-Pacific region.
Young people and the Law in Asia and the Pacific: A review of laws and policies affecting young people’s access to sexual and reproductive health and HIV services, released at ICAAP’11 by UNESCO, UNFPA, UNAIDS, UNDP and Youth LEAD pulls together an analysis of over 400 key legal and policy documents from 32 countries in the region. It is also informed by experiences, perspectives and opinions of young people shared during focus group discussions in 3 countries.
The review considers:
How do legal and policy frameworks impact on SRH/HIV service provision for young people?
What legal measures protect young people’s right to health, and do measures exist to address the needs of young key populations?
What approaches need to be taken to address identified gaps in the protection and promotion of the right to health of young people, and to ensure access to SRH/HIV services?
