This report is the result of a collaborative research effort between a SIPA workshop team and the Regional Centre of Excellence Against Hunger and Malnutrition (CERFAM), a knowledge-sharing and partnership platform established by the World Food Programme in Côte d’Ivoire. The landscape analysis explores home-grown school feeding (HGSF) programmes across 12 countries in Sub-Saharan Africa, assessing how they are being scaled to strengthen local food systems, improve child nutrition, and support smallholder farmers. Drawing on study visits to three countries (Benin, The Gambia and Zambia), over 60 stakeholder interviews, and secondary research, the workshop team's final report is organized around seven dimensions of implementation. It highlights promising innovations - such as decentralized procurement, school gardens, and digital tools - while identifying gaps in financing, monitoring, and supply chain integration. The analysis concludes with practical, evidence-based recommendations to help policymakers and partners enhance the sustainability and impact of HGSF as a driver of inclusive development, rural resilience, and human capital investment.
