Peer education is a powerful strategy to promote positive behaviour change and improve the life skills of young people. This peer education program builds upon the concepts and life skills first introduced in the Upper Primary Personal Development syllabus.
The HIV/AIDS Policy for the National Education System of Papua New Guinea has been widely distributed throughout the country. In 2006 the HIV/AIDS/STIs Implementation Plan 2007-2012 for the National Education System of Papua New Guinea was developed.
To provide a holistic Health Education syllabus, the revision of the syllabus has taken into consideration the trends and development in health education; that is, placing greater emphasis on the health messages advocated by the Health Promotion Board.
Information, education and communication are the avenues that can be used to inform people about the spread, impact and prevention of HIV/AIDS.
This Policy applies to all students, teachers, lecturers, teacher trainers, trainee teachers, managers (including Boards of Management, Boards of Governors and Governing Councils), administrators, and professional, support and ancillary staff at all levels of the national education system.
