This package is one of a series of repackaged products aimed at alerting users on highly valuable educational resources that exist in the field of adolescent reproductive sexual health. It focuses on the impact of peer education in promoting necessary changes among adolescents in attitudes and behaviour with regard to reproductive and sexual health and is targeted at teachers, trainers, curriculum developers and school administrators. Chapter 1: Defines what peer education is, the role of a peer educator and how peer education became recognized as an effective strategy for passing reproductive and sexual health messages to the youth. Chapter 2: Provides the justification for using peer education in changing attitudes and behaviour. Chapter 3: What research says about the peer approach- assessing its influence and impact on teen pregnancy prevention, STD/HIV/AIDS prevention, overall knowledge of reproductive and sexual health and its influence on peer educators, citing experiences from Cambodia, China, Ghana and India. Chapter 4: Compilation of lessons learned from many research studies, showing what makes a peer education programme successful. Chapter 5: Presents a series of guidelines to address different aspects of adolescent reproductive health intervention planning and implementation from project formulation to selecting and training peer educators; including tips for working with youth, adults and sample lesson plans from a peer educator's training manual. This particular booklet synthesizes these experiences and shares lessons learned, as well as offering guidelines to enable policy makers and programme implementer's to learn from others.
