Health and Family Life Education, a comprehensive life-skill programme, is the chosen vehicle for HIV and AIDS prevention including both knowledge and skill acquisition. Its primary focus is to increase the awareness of children and youth, in formal and non-formal sectors of the fact that the choices they make daily will profoundly influence their health and personal development. The revised HFLE policy is intended to provide a general framework: To ensure consistent and sustained exposure to HFLE for Jamaican children; To increase the knowledge, skills, attitudes and behaviours of these groups; To facilitate the adoption of healthy and productive life styles; and To enable them to contribute to a healthy society and prosperous economy.
