Project GLOW, Health and Life Planning Skills Curriculum is a curriculum document developed in 2008 by PATH (Program for Appropriate Technology in Health), Mercy Corps and the Liangshan Yi For Empowerment (LYFE) Center on Project GLOW (Giving Leadership Opportunities to Young Women) with support from the Nike Foundation. The document is prepared for facilitators so they can equip and empower Yi adolescent girls with the life skills, health, and economic options necessary to cope and move beyond the challenges of urban migration and the growing HIV/AIDS epidemic. Itáprovides step-by-step instructions for facilitating participatory and interactive discussions with young people on issues related to their health future. The document aims to encourage discussion and reflection, as well as provide factual information and address common myths. The curriculum contains 54 sessions, including 8 sessions regarding HIV and AIDS: i) How Diseases Spread ?; ii) Sexually Transmitted Infections; iii) HIV Instructions; iv) HIV Transmission; v) HIV Prevention; vi) Condoms; vii) Condoms Use; and viii) Living with HIV. The project targets adolescent girls ages 14-18 with the following activities: 1) Education (language, life skills, and business literacy); 2) Economic Opportunity (economic group formation, agricultural/vocational skills, and job placement); and 3) Health (health education and peer-to-peer monitoring).
