This document was prepared to encourage more schools and communities to use skills-based health education, including life skills, as the method for improving health and education; by teaching children and adolescents how to adopt or strengthen healthy lifestyles.

The aim of this case study was to document the effects of HIV/AIDS on the University of Nairobi personnel, operations and resource use. The study was of a descriptive nature and relied mostly on qualitative methodoloies such as interviews, group discussions and the analysis of documents.

The purpose of this document is two-fold. It serves as a practical training manual for World Bank staff, Ministry of Education planners and other stakeholders who wish to use the Ed-SIDA model in a particular country to assist with educational planning in the face of HIV/AIDS.

This paper reviews the current world situation with regard to HIV/AIDS and education, outlining the elements needed for a comprehensive strategy for action and detailing the World Bank's role within the overall education sector in the fight against the epidemic.
