This document was produced as an input to the Policy Dialogue on “Bullying and Learning Nationally, Regionally and internationally”, organized by the Regional Centre for Educational Planning (RECP) and the Government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on 29-30 April 2019 in Sharjah, UAE.
School-related violence in all its forms, including bullying, is an infringement of children’s and adolescents’ rights to education and health and well-being. No country can achieve inclusive and equitable quality education for all if learners experience violence in school.
Since March 2014 the Canadian Government has been funding the project ‘WASH in Schools for Girls: Advocacy and Capacity Building for MHM through WASH in Schools Programmes’.
Violence against women and girls is an unacceptable violation of basic human rights. It also is so widespread that ending it must be a global public health priority. An estimated one in three women is beaten, coerced into sex or otherwise abused by an intimate partner during her lifetime.
WASH in Schools (WinS) fosters social inclusion and individual self-respect. By offering an alternative to the stigma and marginalization associated with hygiene issues, it empowers all students – and especially encourages girls and female teachers.
The study discussed in this report aimed at contributing to the promotion of gender equality and education for girls and boys, by generating knowledge that raises awareness and fights against the phenomenon of SRGBV. Its main objectives were: 1.
Schools have been identified as one of the appropriate settings for addiction prevention since this is the place where pupils may come into contact with drugs for the first time and experiment with them, with the possibility of becoming addicted.
