This is a summary of the findings from the report of the scoping study done in six locations in Nigeria. The aim of the study was to gather data that will support the development of a national policy on safety and security of schools in Nigeria.
This document was produced as an input to the Policy Dialogue on “Bullying and Learning Nationally, Regionally and internationally”, organized by the Regional Centre for Educational Planning (RECP) and the Government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on 29-30 April 2019 in Sharjah, UAE.
The role of the educational institutions is to provide an appropriate education for all its learners. A stable, secure learning environment is an essential requirement to achieve this goal. Bullying behaviour, by its very nature, undermines and does not promote quality of education.

Most countries do not know much about the outcomes or impact of activities related to gender based violence. Gender based violence undermines both social and economic development and the individual’s capacity for realising her or his rights and potentials under already strained conditions.
