This curriculum has been developed to assist individuals to have a clear and factual view of humanity; to provide them with the information and skills necessary for rational decision-making about their sexual health; to change behaviour; and to prevent HIV infection.

In April 2000 the Association for the Development of Education in Africa (ADEA) initiated an exercise aimed at identifying effective responses by education systems to the effects of HIV/AIDS on the education structures of countries in sub-Saharan Africa.
As part of the on-going actvity by UNICEF to reduce the alarming rate of HIV/AIDS spread in Nigeria, UNICEF partnered with the NYSC Directorate and the Association for Reproductive and Family Health (ARFH) to train 1 382 Youth Corps members in 7 pilot states in Nigeria.
This booklet explains what the disease is, how it is and is not spread and how it can be prevented. One of the best ways to arm yourself against HIV/AIDS is to learn and talk about it. The more informed people are, the more likely they are to protect themselves.
More than 200 participants drawn from all stakeholders in education in Nigeria and members of the civil societies assembled at the Merit House in Abuja for a four-day national workshop (10-13 June 2002) on Education for HIV/AIDS Prevention in Nigeria.
