In 2024, UNICEF and WFP came together to assess the extent of their collaboration on school health and nutrition in Eastern and Southern Africa. The result was the documentation of three country case studies that demonstrate the collaboration in action for school-age children and adolescents in Zimbabwe, South Sudan and Malawi. The UN Joint Programme on Girls Education in Malawi aims to address barriers to quality education for girls, boys, and vulnerable children in Malawi. The programme targets school age children and adolescents aged 10-24 in and out of school and their guardians in four districts (Dedza, Mangochi, Salima and Kasungu) with a set of integrated, multi-sectoral actions to contribute to inclusive quality and gender-sensitive teaching and learning; improved health and nutrition; child safety, sexual and reproductive health; and community participation.
