HIV counseling and testing and knowledge about HIV are key strategies in the prevention and control of HIV/AIDS in Ghana. However, HIV knowledge and utilization of VCT services among university students is low. The main objective of this study was to determine the level of HIV/AIDS knowledge among private university students in Accra, Ghana. This was a cross-sectional study that was conducted using structured questionnaires among 324 selected students in universities in Accra, Ghana. The mean HIV knowledge score was 7.70. And there was a significant gender difference, with female students having more knowledge about HIV/AIDS then males. The conclusion of the study is that although student HIV knowledge is very good, HIV testing is very poor. The conclusion is that HIV intervention programmes must not only provide accurate information, but must be made to help to equip private university students, especially females to test for HIV consistently.
