This document, part of UNESCO’s series of technical briefs on school violence and bullying, focuses on the role of teachers in preventing and addressing violence in school. It draws on the findings from two recent studies to present new evidence on teachers’ readiness and capacity to recognize and respond to different forms of violence in their school and provides recommendations on what works to support teachers to be agents of change. The document is primarily intended for education policy-makers and planners, school management, principals and teachers, and may also be of interest to donors investing in or organizations implementing teacher training programmes.
