Since 2007 all pre-service teachers have had a compulsory and comprehensive training course in HIV&AIDS and sexual reproductive health. HIV&AIDS is also a compulsory part of all school and cluster TIPs and every School Learning Improvement Plan (SLIP).
This report was commissioned by the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID) on behalf of the National Department of Education (NDoE). Its main purpose is to provide an analysis of the education sector's contribution to the HIV and AIDS response in PNG.
This framework sets a standard for training providers and in-service coordinators to help plan, deliver and evaluate training in HIV/AIDS, STIs, reproductive health, peer education and life skills.
We decided to implement this project here in our province (Western Highlands Province, WHP) among 30 institutions due to the fact that there is no decrease to the spread of HIV/AIDS here. HIV/AIDS is on the rise here (PNG) amongst young people.
