This document aims to provide a thorough overview of the operation of school health services in Romania. In carrying out this research work the authors have reviewed the legal framework on the organisation, coordination and funding of the school health services, including public, private and special schools in urban and rural areas. Administrative aspects regarding the methodology and coordination were analysed, as well as the mechanisms for financing the overall school-based healthcare system, and school doctors, dentists, and nurses. Furthermore, the authors held interviews with key stakeholders from school health services (principal of a special school, local authorities, members of the Board for School-based healthcare) to validate the information obtained from public documents.
