Conference on HIV/AIDS and the education sector: Report and sector plan of action

The Conference on HIV/AIDS and the education sector - the Education Coalition against HIV/AIDS- was held from 31 May to 1 June 2002. The Conference was held in recognition of the fact that the education sector is under siege from HIV and AIDS and the impact on learning institutions and sub-sectors can no longer be ignored. It was agreed that there is an urgent need to place education's response at the centre of the national response to the epidemic. The richness of the discussions and the commitments that emerged from the Conference are reflected in this report. It is hoped that this document will provide a sufficient basis and clear guidelines for moving forward.
