The Menstrual Health (MH) guidelines are intended to aid provision of a supportive school environment that will provide comfort while at school during menstruation, improve school performance, reduce absenteeism and dropout rates attributable to menstruation. The guidelines are hinged on the systematic factors enabling MH as listed by UNESCO as: accurate and timely knowledge; available, safe, and affordable materials; informed and comfortable professionals; referral and access to health services; sanitation and washing facilities; positive social norms; safe and hygienic disposal; and advocacy and policy. They will also be aligned to already existing national standards for WASH in schools.
